What to Expect

Before starting the treatment process at RMA-FL, we need to get to know you and assess your goals for treatment. Your medical records will be an important part of this first step, but your initial consultation is going to help us create an individualized treatment plan that takes your family planning goals, personal preferences, and schedule into account.

You can reach out to us to speak with a patient liaison and schedule an office visit at a time that works for you. Call us or complete the form below.

Female Infertility Consultations

Your doctor will ask you several basic questions to get a feel for the obstacles you’ve faced in your struggle to start a family. Some of the questions will include:

  • How long have you been trying to have a baby?
  • Have you ever been pregnant?
  • What kind of past fertility treatments have you had, if any? What were the outcomes?
  • Have you ever had any major illnesses or sexually transmitted diseases?
  • What does your family medical history include?
  • Are you currently taking any medications?

Your doctor will more than likely recommend several tests in addition to blood work. This blood screening will check hormone levels, genetic abnormalities, and the presence of any infectious diseases. A physical examination may also be necessary, and this will include an ultrasound so your doctor can have a better understanding of the health of your reproductive system. The health of your uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries will play a crucial role in which treatment options will work best for you.

Your fertility doctor will help you understand your treatment options and recommend the procedures most likely to help you accomplish your goals. If your initial tests are inconclusive, you may need a second round of testing and follow-up consultations may be required to discuss your results. Finally, during your initial consultation you’ll also have the opportunity to meet with one of RMA-FL’s financial counselors to answer any questions you may have about the costs of treatment, payment plans, insurance concerns, and any emotional or psychological counseling or support you may need.

Male Infertility Consultations:

Your meeting with your fertility doctor will begin with your doctor asking some basic questions to get a sense of your goals and the complications you’ve encountered. These questions will cover things like:

  • Your medical history and current health status.
  • Medications you are currently taking.
  • How long you’ve struggled with infertility issues.
  • Any existing reproductive conditions such as sexually transmitted diseases, undescended testicles, and varicoceles.

Your initial consultation may also lead to a complete physical examination of your reproductive anatomy. In most cases, your doctor will recommend a blood test and semen analysis. Some of our patients will also require genetic testing and ultrasound screenings to help doctors get a better sense of the root cause of your infertility.
